People aren't on about that bit.

The initial throw in was instigated by Scaloni kicking the ball into touch because a Liverpool player was injured. He pointed to him as he booted the ball out.

They then half heartedly threw the ball back to him as you said.

He should have just booted the ball down the pitch to Reina and let Reina decide what to do about their injured player. Would he have booted it out? Doubt it.

Don't really blame Liverpool for being a bit cunty about the way they threw the ball back to him.

Clive Allen was always a Spurs man and with us at the end of his career, I went to this game at Bristol City and he was outstanding, surprised to find it on YouTube

Anyone mentioned Zarate yet? He was decent, contributed some important goals. Shame he wouldn't pass and was a bit loopy. But I liked him as a squad member. Rather him than snodgrass, tore, eminike, etc.

Re: Insignificant players that somehow made a significant contribution to West Ham United
That's not entirely correct though. First of all they didn't give it back in the usual time-honoured way - one player threw it to him and another immediately chased Scaloni down so he had to hit it early. Scaloni could have put it out but you can see why he didn't when we had players in the middle of the park. Unfortunately he half volleyed it and it cleared Fletcher and NRC but didn't get as far as Zamora and landed at Gerrard's feet. The ball was passed again and then launched into the box where it was headed clear. The clearance was miscontrolled by a Liverpool player and it bounced out to Gerrard, who hit it first time. 18 seconds from the throw-on to the goal.

It's widely remembered as Scaloni, under no pressure, passing it to Gerrard who volleyed it into the goal like Hurst whacking it past Corrigan, but there's more to it.

As for that article saying that Row Z would have meant a win. Well probably eventually but the moment before Gerrard hit his shot the board had gone up to say four minutes added time.

Allen McKnight for a truly awful performance, (even by his standards), gifting Luton a lead in the League Cup Semi Final 1st leg at Upton Park.

Dimitri Payet.... Totally insignificant to some now but in the fleeting moment he was here that first season made it great to be a Hammers supporter for a change.

Scored the equaliser at Wigan which meant Palace got into the play offs. With them then beating us in the final.

Fark

Discovering 3 Bobby Moores was a definite coup but let's be honest here, one Pat Holland would have been more than enough.

Re: Insignificant players that somehow made a significant contribution to West Ham United
Wally St Pier, insignificant playing career but...

St Pier arrived at West Ham United from Ilford in April 1929 making his senior debut in October 1929 against Leicester City. Spending most of his time as understudy to Jim Barrett, St Pier managed only 24 appearances for The Hammers before retiring from playing in 1932.[1]

St Pier was appointed club chief scout by manager Charlie Paynter and was responsible for the discovery of John Lyall,[2] Bobby Moore,[3] Geoff Hurst, Martin Peters,[4] Pat Holland,[5] Frank Lampard, Paul Brush and Alan Curbishley,[6] amongst others, through his scouting network.

Given a testimonial in May 1975, he retired in 1976 after 47 years service to West Ham.
